
Sam is originally from Durham and trained at Manchester School of Theatre, where he graduated with a BA in Acting in 2011. He has played a number of iconic leading roles in both Musical Theatre and plays in the west end and around the UK.
Whilst in his final year Sam landed his first professional jobs playing 'Sailor' and 'Young Collector' in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, and 'Harry' in LOVE ON THE DOLE, both directed by David Thacker at the Bolton Octagon Theatre. He also performed in the TMA award winning production of THE HIRED MAN. After working at Bolton he returned to drama school to play 'Herbert Pocket' in GREAT EXPECTATIONS, 'Peter' in STAGS AND HENS and 'Marmion' in COMIC POTENTIAL. In Summer 2011 he worked at Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre playing 'Greg' in Rory Mullarkeys new play SINGLE SEX, directed by Sarah Frankhom and 'Gena Hamlet' in GALKA MOTALKA, Directed by Sam Pritchard. He has also worked on the EVERYWORD festival of new writing for children at the Liverpool Playhouse.
At the start of 2012 Sam started work on the UK tour of AVENUE Q, playing the leading roles of 'Princeton' & 'Rod'. This allowed Sam to work on another lifelong passion, puppetry! After the tour he took part in a workshop and performance of the new musical FIRING LIFE, written and directed by Emma Trow. In October of 2012 Sam started the role of 'Boq' in the west end musical WICKED where he played the role for three consecutive years. After Wicked, Sam has played 'Seymour' in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (UK TOUR), 'Wilf' in SPRING AND PORT WINE (OLDHAM COLLISEUM) and 'Harry' in THE LADYKILLERS (UK TOUR 2017). In 2018 Sam played 'Jamie' in THE LAST FIVE YEARS. In 2019 Sam played the leading role of 'Bruce' in BEYOND THERAPY (UK TOUR).
On Radio, Sam has voiced characters in NATIONAL VELVET for SparkLab, airing on BBC RADIO 4 on Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2013. He also voiced 'Nino Sarratore' in the radio adaptations of MY BRILLIANT FRIEND & THE STORY OF A NEW NAME (BBC Radio 4). He has also produced voice over work for the national tour of POP FACTOR, radio adverts for CAMBRIDGE 105 and for The Gala Theatre's MYSTERY PLAYS and ROBIN HOOD. He has also recently voiced a number of short audio stories.
Sam is a musician and singer and is often invited to take part in concerts, cabarets and to workshop material for musical theatre. In December 2012 he performed in OUT OF OUR HEADS - THE MUSIC OF KOOMAN AND DIAMOND, and in March 2013 performed at the UK Album launch of US comper Bobby Cronin's THE CONCRETE JUNGLE. Most recently he performed with fellow WICKED cast members in A VERY WEST END CHRISTMAS and WICKED CARES. He often performs in concerts & Cabarets in and around London.
In 2016 Sam made his directorial debut, directing HOW TO CURSE at the Etcetera Theatre. In 2017 Sam directed TERRORISM at Birminghams Blue Orange Theatre. He has appeared in a number of Pantomimes as both leading man and comic.
In 2020, Sam gave the first performance if his first one many show SEANCE: LIVE, an interactive magic show based around Victorian Seance. The show continues to be performed annually.
In 2021 Sam was part of the original cast of BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS for Disney. He also played Robert Jenrick in THIS ENGLAND for Sky Atlantic, directed by Michael Winterbottom and Julian Jarrold.
Sam has been seen on BBC and ITV in the UK and RTE (THE LATE LATE SHOW) and TV3 (IRELAND:AM) in Ireland for a range of different projects. as well as numerous interviews on BBC Local Radio.
Sam is also one of the presenting team at DURHAM ONAIR, a local radio station serving the community of County Durham on DAB Radio.
